A Deep Dive into Life’s Challenges and Kinyatrap Evolution in Rwandan Hip-Hop.
Green Ferry Music is thrilled to announce the release of “REKA SO,” an evocative and introspective EP by Rwandan artist Pogatsa and producer Dr. Nganji.
In Kinyarwanda, the phrase “REKA SO” translates to “avoid faults,” a compelling caution that underscores the EP’s message, which explores the destructive consequences of indulging in power, drugs, sex, money, and the urban lifestyle when motivated by negative influences. Through powerful storytelling and innovative music production, “REKA SO” speaks to the complexities of navigating modern life while staying connected to cultural roots.
A Fusion of Storytelling and Wisdom
This eight-track EP features Pogatsa’s exceptional songwriting, diving into relevant and often challenging topics: societal pressures, personal struggles, and the pursuit of success, which can sometimes lead to conflicts with the law. Through these narratives, Pogatsa weaves in proverbs and wisdom passed down through generations, delivering messages that resonate deeply with young people while honoring traditional Rwandan culture. This unique blend bridges the gap between the lessons of the past and the modern dilemmas of the present, inviting listeners to reflect on their choices and behaviors.
A Pioneer of Kinyatrap
“REKA SO” showcases the pioneering Kinyatrap sound that Pogatsa helped bring into the mainstream Rwandan music scene. Known for its unique combination of Kinyarwanda language and trap music, Kinyatrap has become a hallmark of Rwandan hip-hop, allowing artists to address important themes in a way that resonates with audiences. Dr. Nganji, who produced the EP, captures the raw and authentic energy of early Kinyatrap while introducing innovative sounds, creating a production that is both grounded in tradition and forward-looking.
The release of “REKA SO” is a pivotal moment for Kinyatrap and the Rwandan hip-hop scene as a whole, showcasing the genre’s depth, relevance, and evolution. Pogatsa and Dr. Nganji’s collaboration is set to inspire listeners to look at the world around them with greater awareness while celebrating the richness of Rwandan cultural identity.
“REKA SO” is now available on all major streaming platforms as of December 13, 2024.
