Green Ferry’s multitalented artist Kaya Byinshii is on an upward trajectory spreading her wings in various artistic fields. Besides music, Kaya Byinshii is also an actress and lending her powerful voice to causes she believes in. She is also showing a dalliance with modelling and this presents an exciting and powerful digital exhibition for lovers of flowers.

In April the artist partnered with the versatile photographer in a series of photos that pay an ode to flowers. This series of photos went live on the Green Ferry Music website from 7th May 2021 to allow fans and art lovers to celebrate this coming together of the ingenious minds of Kaya Byinshii and Meliibees.

Meliibees is a 21 year old photographer who shoots film and digital, she has lived in the Netherlands, Belgium and now currently living in Rwanda. She is mixed with Rwandan and Kurdish. Her love for photography and creativity started young and she decided to share her work since 2020. Concepts she creates are simplistic but tell powerful stories.

After their meeting via a mutual friend, Kaya Byinshii and Meliibees decided to develop a concept called ‘Mother of the flowers’. “With this concept Kaya Byinshii and I wanted to showcase how simple it may seems to see and receive flowers, but at the same time it has many meanings besides the beauty of the flowers,” Meliibees says.

“The process of picking them, taking care of them, until they reach their destination. It’s like a mother who will do anything to her children to make sure they are safe and loved. In these pictures Kaya Byinshii is portrayed as a mother of the flowers with innocence, sympathy and purity.”

Meliibees other previous concepts includes hats and outfits that she created herself out of braiding hair, shows off the power of African hairstyles.

‘Mother of the flowers’ creates a narrative that tells the story of a mother and her creation, and Meliibees’s photographs show the brilliance of her photographic eye. As for Kaya Byinshii, her career continues to elevate, let’s include modelling as well and hope it won’t be the last time they collaborate
together.

“As I pick the flowers, having you in mind

As a mother to her children

I water them, Hold them tightly

Close to my chest, until it reaches to you

I give them to you

What do you see besides the beauty?

The innocence of the flowers and me

The sympathy of the flowers and me

The purity of the flowers and me”

Poem by Meliibees (Mother of the flowers)
